The Hunter Becomes the Hunted
By: Andrew Baughn
Vermont hunter Conrad Masse, 57, of Craftsbury, charged with the shooting of his friend Wayne Goff, 58, of Wolcott, while they where bear hunting together near Urie Rd. in Albany Vt. on October 22, 2013.
Using a GPS to track two
bear hounds that they had released to trail a bear. Masse drove
his truck with Goff as a passenger to the Urie Rd. in an attempt to get in
front of the bear which was being pursued by the dogs.
Suddenly a bear crossed the road which caused Masse to fire at least three shots. One
of the rounds struck the bear, one struck a tree, and one struck Goff.
The
bullet had entered Goff in the midsection and struck him in the pelvic
area. He then was transported to North Country Hospital and then transferred
to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment.
Goff has since been released
from the hospital and is in stable condition and in conclusion of the investigation Masse was issued a citation to appear in
the Orleans Superior Court and the State is charging him of Aggravated
Assault.
