CNN iReport

http://ireport.cnn.com/
"Look around on the website and write a blog post telling us what you think about the site -- what you like, what you dislike, whether it is a good idea."

What I liked about the website first off was the tour that I took when I created my account on it.
The tour showed the things I can do on the site.
I can even keep up with the site and the assignments on twitter and keep up to date.
And they even have a Facebook page.

I also took into consideration and interest 3 words
EXPLORE, DISCOVER, CONTRIBUTE.

The way this site distributes info and current events to keep people up to date is unique, unlike anything I have ever seen. I believe that this should be used by any journalism student who is just starting out and need a push.

I think that this website is a excellent idea and it has everything. I also like the editors pick and the top pick as well. The site even offers a Assignment desk that lets you even share your very own story, even group assignments.

There is nothing to no like about this site, because it is very very useful and has no flaws. I do think iReport  just needs a few more upgrades that isall
I would recommend this site to everyone in EJA.

iReport is part of CNN.com where people post stories they have reported about. It is a great place to explore what is going on in the world, discover new stories and, and to share your own content.

Slideshow Project: Andrew, Mike and Shane (400-Word Feature)

400-Word Feature
Alan Weiss visited Lyndon State College on Monday, October 21 to give a presentation open to the public. Weiss is a seven-time Emmy Award winner as a producer and writer.
Weiss graduated from Northwestern University with a Master’s Degree in Journalism in 1974. Later that year he joined ABC to start his wonderful career.
At ABC Weiss was a writer for Ted Koppel, who hosted “World News Tonight-Weekend Edition.” He started off as a writer, but quickly rose towards the top.

ABC chose Weiss to launch the newly created “5 O’ Clock Eyewitness News” broadcast. It became the most popular five p.m. news broadcast in New York City in just three months.
Weiss was the first person to report on the death of John Lennon in 1980. He was in a motor cycle accident, and while in the hospital Weiss overheard a police officer tell another cop about the shooting.

He was noticed nationally for his story on Lennon, and his story won Weiss his second Emmy Award in news.

Albert Primo and Weiss are the co-creators of “Teen Kids News” and together are the executive producers. The show is weekly half-hour long shows that has teenagers report on current events in the news.

The news broadcast has been on for over eleven years and has produced over 500 shows. Weiss wanted to create a news broadcast that targeted kids.

Teen Kids News has won an Emmy Award, another credential to add to Weiss’ resume. About two hundred television stations carry Teen Kids News, and the broadcast is shown to the military all over the world.

Weiss had the audience laughing throughout his presentation at Lyndon State College. The Audience was attentive, asking questions and engaging with Weiss for the hour and a half presentation.
When the presentation was over, students rushed to the front of the room to hopefully talk with Weiss. Everyone that wanted to speak to him was able to, and he seemed overjoyed to talk to students.

After everyone had left the room, Weiss was nice enough to allow Andrew Baughn to ask him a few questions. He was very outgoing, pleasant, and easy to talk to.

The Society of Professional Journalist Club of Lyndon State was responsible for having Weiss come to the Northeast Kingdom. Weiss’ appearence was their largest event of the year.

Audio Slideshow project 200-word synopsis
Our slideshow project is going to about 7-Time Emmy Winner & New York Producer Alan J. Weiss who will be visiting Lyndon on behalf of the SPJ Club to speak in front of students and faculty.
We will be recording the presentation and the interview. The interview will be with Alan and Andrew after the presentation. Shane and Mike will take picture and record both the presentation and interview. The presentation and the interview will be on Monday, October 21,13 at 7:30pm and will go as long as it goes.
The slideshow will tie the interview and the presentation together. The presentation will be centered around working in the major market, breaking the “big story, ” and how news has changed in Weiss’ career. The interview will be question Weiss, like how he got started and other things about his life.
The sound sources we plan to use are sound audio from the presentation and the interview and also maybe some background music if needed. The intended audience is our fellow classmates and anyone who have an interest in multimedia journalism and television studies. The story will be interesting for the audience because it will inspire them and teach them about how its important to meet and know important people in the business so they can gain more experience and learn more.

LSC Multimedia Storytelling (Slidshow and Photo Gallery)

Do the slideshows and photo gallery function well as storytelling tools?
Which does the better job?
Why or why not?
What difference does sound make?

Slideshow (With No Audio)
Driving the Lincoln Highway

Both the slideshows and the photo galley provided most excellent storytelling tools. With or with out audio they are very exceptional and I was able to understand what was going on. They went into a good story format, they each had a beginning, middle and finish. I have always know that pictures can tell a story just as well as words.
If I had to pick favorites, I would have to go with the slideshow with audio. I liked its narration and had the best storyline from start to finish. The audio narration went along nicely with it too. Each photo went along with the audio narration and it went from when he started in the locker room getting ready for the fight and then it brings us to the ring where he claims the victory. Like I mentioned earlier the way the audio wen along with the photos made me as the viewer feel like I was there at the fight and watching it.
In the slideshow or photo galleries, sound really dosen't make the difference. It is okay to add it into it if you choose, but you can do without it. All that really matters is that the slideshow or photo gallery is being viewed by people. In my mind, sound would be nice, but only if it helps narrate the photos. Also I guess a little background music couldn't hurt as well. Background music gives the slideshow a little theme and helps with the transition of photos a little bit. Overall sound can used only if the person wants it.
