Multimedia Storytelling Final Project
On Saturday, December 7th, Lyndon State College students had an opportunity to visit New York City for a day. The Campus Activities Board held online sign-ups where the first students who responded to an email, were first on the list of people to attend the trip.
Two coach buses were rented for the day to bring the group to the Big Apple. Brian Martineau is the CAB activities supervisor and joined the group on their journey south. He and Residence Hall Director Meredith Atchison, were the two school officials who oversaw the trip.
Students had to meet at the buses at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday morning in the Vail Parking Lot. The buses departed from campus at 5:00 a.m., heading to New York City.
The only stop made on the way down was at a McDonalds, making the trip not too long. From Lyndonville to NYC took nearly five hours, with just the one stop.
When arriving in New York, the bus dropped students off on Broadway, right across the street from Her Majesty’s Theatre, where the Phantom of the Opera is performed. Students were released for the day to do whatever they wished.
Students could do anything they wanted, but they had to meet back at the theatre by 8:00 p.m., where the buses would pick them up.
There were several popular places that LSC students went to. The plaza around the set of the “Today Show,” the Empire State Building, and shopping malls were visited by many students.
Times Square had many students in it during the nighttime, as all of the lights, signs, and people, attracted many students. From the streets of Times Square, one could see the famous ball that is dropped at the end of each year, signifying the start of a new one.
When all the students were accounted for, the buses left, heading back to campus by 8:30 p.m. The bus did not stop on the way home, but movies were shown to keep students entertained.
The buses arrived back on campus around 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

Lyndon State College: Resident Assistants (Video Project 2)
At Lyndon State College, students, faculty, and staff all work together in order to keep positive attitudes flowing throughout campus. The 21 resident assistants play a pivotal role in setting the wonderful atmosphere many people love about LSC.
The resident assistants are hard workers. They are hired to keep students on campus safe, and allow their residents to have a great time while living on campus.
Resident assistants are given a ton of responsibility. They have keys to every dorm room on campus. At any time of the day they can be called upon to help out with a harmful situation, or just to unlock a door for a student who forgets his or her keys.
Once a month the resident assistants are responsible for creating activities for residents to attend and enjoy.
The R.A.s are overseen by their boss, Erin Rossetti. Rossetti is the head of the residential life department, and she also serves as the resident hall director for the Rita Bole Complex.
She is responsible for going through the hiring process of resident assistants and residence hall directors. Rossetti has four resident assistants in each building, along with one Resident hall director per building.
Each R.A. is assigned one night per week, and about one weekend per month to be “on duty.” This includes being in their room readily available if an incident occurred, as well as going on rounds to ensure the safety of the students in dorm buildings.
The resident assistants go in pairs to go on rounds each night. They make two or three rounds on a given night, depending on the activity around campus.
Each night one resident hall director is also “on duty” and they are on call in case of a serious situation occurring. The resident assistants are always busy with their job, but the job is worth the while.
There are several benefits an R.A. receives from obtaining the position. Lyndon State College pays the room and board for the resident assistants, saving thousands of dollars for many of them.
The school also gives them the option to have an unlimited meal-plan, or receive money every week to buy groceries.
The job also provides good references for resident assistants to put down when applying for jobs. Being an R.A. also gives the students great work experience, and is a positive piece to building a great resume.

Final Project (Outline) Intro to Multimedia Storytelling
Andrew Baughn and Michael Raimondi
LSC Takes New York City
Mike and I plan to create a narrative on the CAB trip to New York City. I attended the event and took several pictures and videos of what he saw and who he talked to.
I used a GoPro and video camera to record everything he saw in the city. He found LSC students and random people in the crowds to talk to. We will use these interviews and natural shots to help create the narrative of the video.
There would be sound from the natural sounds of the city, as well as interviews conducted by me.
I was responsible for filming and taking picture in NYC. We will together edit the video, add cool features to the video, and put it all together, and Mike will write the narrative.
We may have to do a few voice recordings to enhance the narrative of the story.

Video Project 2 Synopsis
Shane, Michael and I want to create a narrative about the resident assistant’s nightly
activities when they are “on duty.”
We
will follow the RAs around campus as they go on “rounds” and check the suites
on campus to make sure students are safe and being responsible. We will
interview the RAs we tape, and have them explain what they do on rounds and
when on duty, and why they have to do these tasks.
The
interview will serve as part of our sound as well as the audio we will record
to explain certain situations in the video. We will also have natural sounds
form the RAs as they go around campus and interact with students.
Andrew
and I will be responsible for recording the video because they live on campus
and can record the RAs in action.

THE CRITIC
Lyndon State College is a
small school located in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. The school has many
news sources on campus for the college population, as well as for the
surrounding community. One source of news that is considered to many to be “old
fashion” is the student-run newspaper, The
Critic.
The Critic staff meets every
Thursday night, when school is in session, to edit the stories, and layout the
eight pages the paper consists of. Once the editing and formatting is complete,
the layout is printed by Upper Valley Press in New Hampshire. On Friday
mornings the papers are delivered to Lyndon State, and can be picked up around
campus for free.
Many students will submit
articles to the newspaper. Some students enjoy writing news stories, and some
submissions to the paper are from the journalistic writing class. It is the job
of the editors to figure out which stories to publish. There are several
editors responsible for putting The Critic together. Each is assigned a section
or page to put together, or write stories for. These editors many times write
their own stories, but sometimes may only have to format a page if other
students’ work is going to be published.
The Critic is done entirely
by students, but there is a professor who oversees the paper to make sure
students are creating the best newspaper possible. Dan Williams is the faculty-
advisor to the Critic. He goes through the paper weekly with Editor-in-chief
Michael Miley. Williams explains the good and the bad are from the past week’s
edition.
In 2010 The Critic joined
social media by creating a Facebook page. This page gets updated with
information from the newspaper, and one can also find there an online edition
of the most recent editions. The Critic also has its own website, but unfortunately
the page is not updated very often.
.
In recent years the critic
has been noticed by the Lyndon State community as a club of high regard. The
Critic was named “club of the year” in 2008 and 2010. The mission statement of
The Critic reads “To serve and share the student voice of Lyndon State
College,” and according to many people, they are successful at doing so.
Lyndon State College is a
strong supporter of the newspaper, as the college states “The Critic is a
student generated and produced newspaper that serves as the voice of the
student body. The paper includes various stories of interest to the Lyndon
State community, including campus events, local area happenings, student
issues, and athletic news.”

VIDEO PROJECT IDEA
Mike, Shane and myself plan to go around campus and find random
students to do a small quiz and record their answers. We may format the
interview like a game show, giving the contestant three questions and a
reward if all three are answered correctly.
The sound would include one of us three asking a question, receiving the answer from the students, and then telling the student whether their response was wrong or right.
One of us will interview the students, and the other two will be responsible for videotaping the encounter.

Newspaper video (LSC MULTIMEDIA STORY TELLING)
The way this newspaper offers it video's is very professional and has it very well organized.
I think its worth coming back to this site and finding ore videos.
Plus I was able to share the video on my blog, it let me copy the ULR and the Code to embed on my blog.
The video appears to be normal time length compared to other videos I have watched online form other newspaper websites, such as the Washington Post.
The subject was about human androids and I think that i very interesting topic because it is discussing or very future in technology and robots....there is no telling to what we as humans can do when we put or minds together and create a master piece. Machines that respond to our voices and feel as we do.
This is topi s far beyond interesting...it's amazing and worth taking interest in.

I can even keep up with the site and the assignments on twitter and keep up to date.
And they even have a Facebook page.

EXPLORE, DISCOVER, CONTRIBUTE.
The way this site distributes info and current events to keep people up to date is unique, unlike anything I have ever seen. I believe that this should be used by any journalism student who is just starting out and need a push.
I think that this website is a excellent idea and it has everything. I also like the editors pick and the top pick as well. The site even offers a Assignment desk that lets you even share your very own story, even group assignments.
There is nothing to no like about this site, because it is very very useful and has no flaws. I do think iReport just needs a few more upgrades that isall
I would recommend this site to everyone in EJA.

Slideshow Project: Andrew, Mike and Shane (400-Word Feature)
400-Word Feature
Alan Weiss visited Lyndon State College on Monday, October 21 to give
a presentation open to the public. Weiss is a seven-time Emmy Award
winner as a producer and writer.Weiss graduated from Northwestern University with a Master’s Degree in Journalism in 1974. Later that year he joined ABC to start his wonderful career.
At ABC Weiss was a writer for Ted Koppel, who hosted “World News Tonight-Weekend Edition.” He started off as a writer, but quickly rose towards the top.
ABC chose Weiss to launch the newly created “5 O’ Clock Eyewitness News” broadcast. It became the most popular five p.m. news broadcast in New York City in just three months.
Weiss was the first person to report on the death of John Lennon in 1980. He was in a motor cycle accident, and while in the hospital Weiss overheard a police officer tell another cop about the shooting.
He was noticed nationally for his story on Lennon, and his story won Weiss his second Emmy Award in news.
Albert Primo and Weiss are the co-creators of “Teen Kids News” and together are the executive producers. The show is weekly half-hour long shows that has teenagers report on current events in the news.
The news broadcast has been on for over eleven years and has produced over 500 shows. Weiss wanted to create a news broadcast that targeted kids.
Teen Kids News has won an Emmy Award, another credential to add to Weiss’ resume. About two hundred television stations carry Teen Kids News, and the broadcast is shown to the military all over the world.
Weiss had the audience laughing throughout his presentation at Lyndon State College. The Audience was attentive, asking questions and engaging with Weiss for the hour and a half presentation.
When the presentation was over, students rushed to the front of the room to hopefully talk with Weiss. Everyone that wanted to speak to him was able to, and he seemed overjoyed to talk to students.
After everyone had left the room, Weiss was nice enough to allow Andrew Baughn to ask him a few questions. He was very outgoing, pleasant, and easy to talk to.
The Society of Professional Journalist Club of Lyndon State was responsible for having Weiss come to the Northeast Kingdom. Weiss’ appearence was their largest event of the year.

LSC Multimedia Storytelling (Slidshow and Photo Gallery)
Do the slideshows and photo gallery function well as storytelling
tools?
Which does the better job?
Why or why not?
What difference does sound make?
Both the slideshows and the photo galley provided most excellent storytelling tools. With or with out audio they are very exceptional and I was able to understand what was going on. They went into a good story format, they each had a beginning, middle and finish. I have always know that pictures can tell a story just as well as words.
If I had to pick favorites, I would have to go with the slideshow with audio. I liked its narration and had the best storyline from start to finish. The audio narration went along nicely with it too. Each photo went along with the audio narration and it went from when he started in the locker room getting ready for the fight and then it brings us to the ring where he claims the victory. Like I mentioned earlier the way the audio wen along with the photos made me as the viewer feel like I was there at the fight and watching it.
In the slideshow or photo galleries, sound really dosen't make the difference. It is okay to add it into it if you choose, but you can do without it. All that really matters is that the slideshow or photo gallery is being viewed by people. In my mind, sound would be nice, but only if it helps narrate the photos. Also I guess a little background music couldn't hurt as well. Background music gives the slideshow a little theme and helps with the transition of photos a little bit. Overall sound can used only if the person wants it.

LSC Multimedia Storytelling (NewsLINC Critique)
NewsLINC Critique
I basically like everything about it and all the information it provides us. I also like how it is part of the college and really gives EJA major students a first crack at what is like to operate a news website and update it constantly. I cant wait for myself to join and get in on the action. I also like their style and set up of information. It makes the site very unique. It even gives you news in not just vermont but also NH as well. You can get sports, weather and even special coverage. They seem to really go the distance with this news site.
I don't see anything wrong with the site, even for a student run site it looks okay andIm sure there are somethings missing but I bet it's just because LSC students haven't gotten around to putting them up yet. The could however use more advertisement windows and if all possible BLOG columns that explain things like from the previous news sites I have been too. Over all I think for now that the site is okay and there is not to much wrong with it.

(LSC Mutltimedia Storytelling) Podcast Team Assignment
The Sports
Fan Podcast
On Friday, September 20, the first
ever edition of the Sports Fans Podcast was created on sound cloud. Recorded at
9 a.m. the Podcast had a round-table discussion of baseball- and focused on the
Boston Red Sox. The host of the show was Andrew Baughn, who interviewed
baseball players at Lyndon State College. Those athletes were Shane Lacroix and
Mike Raimondi.
The start of the show included a
discussion about the three men’s favorite Red Sox players. Lacroix’s favorite
was second baseman Dustin Pedroia. Gold glove Awards and one MVP Award are part
of Pedroia’s resume, but Lacroix claims that these pedigrees are just part of
the reason that make Pedroia such an excellent player. His attitude and work
ethic on and off the field are what set him apart in Lacroix’s mind. Pedroia
works hard and gives everything he has every time he steps on the diamond. His
mindset is something every coach wants in a player, and the stats that come
with him are impressive as well. When he
won his MVP Award in 2008, Pedroia led the major leagues in runs scored, hits,
and doubles. He batted an impressive .326 with 83 runs-batted-in for a man
standing at a pedestrian 5’8’’ and 165 pounds. Pedroia is a fan favorite,
working hard to win the love of fans. Many baseball fans in New England are
fans of the best players, and this theory is holding true for the three
speakers.
Baughn and Raimondi both felt that
designated hitter David Ortiz was their favorite Red Sock. Ortiz is a common
choice for favorite player among Red Sox nation, and for good reason. Ortiz was
a critical component of breaking the “Curse of the Great Bambino” when the Red
Sox won the World Series in 2004. “Big Papi” and Manny Ramirez in the middle of
the Boston lineup created a formidable force of offense very few pitchers could
stop. Bringing the first World Series Title to Boston in 86 years was a huge deal
to Red Sox nation and the City of Boston. The region was lucky enough to grab
another World Series Title a few years later in 2007, largely in part to Ortiz.
In 2007 he led Major League Baseball in walks with 111, and led the league in
on-base percentage with .445. Ortiz has been a crucial part of the Red sox
success in the mid- 2000s.
The
Red Sox have gone through a huge turn-around this season. Last year at this
time, fans were complaining about a poor team and Manager Bobby Valentine
saying things publically he should not say. A year later the Red Sox have
clinched the American League East Division, and are heading to the playoffs
with right now, the best record in Major League Baseball.

Podcast Assignment (LSC Multimedia Storytelling)
Podcast

Podcast #1
"Bill Nye The Dancing Guy"
1.) Why I picked this Podcast? "The reason I pick this podcast, is because of two reasons. One the podcast is a news podcast and since I'm a news major I always must keep up to date on what is going on in the world. Second reason I picked it is because it is because the "D" stands for discovery news and I am a huge fan of the Discovery Channel. It gives you a lay down on everything to help viewers comprehend the science in our everyday lives."
2.) What I liked and Disliked? "Im going to be honest and say that I didn't dislike it at all, I loved it. I loved how it talked about Bill Nye and how he was going to be on dancing with the stars and how dancing was explained in a scientific manner. It made dancing seem like a science project and also seemed like everything in life can be explained in scientific terms. I really learned a lot about dancing too and it seems more interesting now. Over all this podcast has a great way of explaining things in terms that are fun and understandable."
3.) Will I continue to listen to it? "Yes I will because this podcast makes science and new seem more fun and interesting. It gave me a whole new look on how to view dancing and science. I thought it was also very entertaining and interesting. It had such a great way of getting me interested. Plus like I said early on I love the Discovery Channel and to Discover new things.
4.) Will I put this on my iPod or other player? "Probably not my iPod but definitely on my Mac Book Pro. I just don't have enough space on my iPhone because of all the other stuff I have on it and I also would prefer watching them on a big screen instead of a small screen. Call me picky but I just have views on different displays of podcasts."
___________________________________________________________
Podcast #2
"Apple CEO Tim Cook unveils new iPhone"
1.) Why I picked this Podcast? "The reason I picked this podcast, is because well first of all I am a apple person and I love getting updated info and new info on the new products that apple has to offer. I used to watch a lot of these with my dad when I was in High School every week. I think apple is the most advanced and best product and company that has been created on the earth. Who needs PC and Windows.
2.) What I liked and Disliked? "Again I picked a podcast that I did not dislike at all. I just loved how they show in detail all the new features to the new iPhone and also what makes it so unique. Apple makes sure that they cover al the important details of their products because they care about their customers and viewers. It works pretty well because I love their products an they last a long time. They live up to there podcasts and commercials.
3.) Will I continue to listen to it? "Is that a trick question, of course I'm going to listen to these again, Ive already subscribed to the latest podcast. As I mentioned earlier that I love apple and it products and I love hearing the news of what they are going to unveil next. WORD ON THE STREET."
4.) Will I put this on my iPod or other player? " Yes I would put this on a my iPhone because not only do I love to watch the apple podcast myself but with other people as well. Putting it on my iPhone i can show it to others and watch it any time I want. Doing apple a favor and spreading the word about their new products.

Critique: Wood TV8 (LSC Multimedia Storytelling Class)
http://www.woodtv.com
The website of course is alright. I love how they have there videos and news stories all organized and how it has the weather forecast in the top right corner like other news websites. To be honest I have never heard of this site or news until my Professor Dan Williams introduced it to me. I can also see that there is a something called Bill's Blog up there too.

What I like about it and what I noticedThe website of course is alright. The Blog apparently seems to be a weather blog that gives updates for the forecast.
There was also a weather alert notification that popped up while I was checking out the site. I guess thats good that the site has immediately notifications to alert people and viewers ASAP.
Also there was a AXE brand deodorant add that was there so I guess they must play WOOD to advertise products as well.
Once you read the stories you are allowed to leave comments bellow and give you opinion.

Also found that there is a video live stream on the home page.
Over all I think this is okay, my honest opinion is that there are similar features it has like other news websites. I don't know what it focus on more news or weather? Still it's a good site to go to, scale on 1 to 10, I would give it an 8. But if if I was in charge, I would make some changes.
What I would do differently
If I was making the site, here is what I would do differently. I would first make another blog, that way there would be two. A weather themed blog and a new event blog. That way we can give quick updates on both. I would also put more advertisement adds up to because I feel because the more we get paid to advertise the more well know we would become. The weather alert notification i like a lot, I would see if I could get a news notification button up there so if news alert comes up quickly, it will pop right on the page.
Finally the last thing I would do is balance the type of news because in this journalists mind there is too much weather on the page, make some room for the news.
Thats it, I think everything else is okay and I will defiantly be coming back to check out the news.

Roaring Creek Bridge Back In Bussiness
After working hard the County has finial fixed what has fallen.
The Roaring Creek Bridge's official opening ceremony is this morning at 11.
Attending the ceremony this morning will be Midville Mayor Seth Montana, U.S Congressman Nancy Draughorn and a United States Senator Warren Johns.
The 75 year old bridge sadly didn't survive the flood last year, when it was washed away.
Back to Life
The county, state, and US Department of Transportation have worked very hard in rebuilding the bridge which cost $700,000 to replace. Attorney of Midville Roland Lively says that before the bridge was damaged by the flood, they didn't have enough money to replace, just fix it.
Many are happy the bridge is back because when the bridge went out by the flood, it created a bad hardship for the Oak Grove neighborhood. With the bridge destroyed, residents had no choice but to drive a lot farther north up the Roaring Creek road Highway. This made traveling very frustrating for many drivers.
"Traveling all the way has made it very inconvenient for a lot of people. We've had to use a lot of time and gasoline just to make what otherwise would be very short trips." says Josh Spivia. " Having this bridge erected so quickly is a blessing ."
The bridge stretches 33-feet across the Roaring Creek along and Roaring Creek Road to welcome all travelers who come.

The Hunter Becomes the Hunted
By: Andrew Baughn
Vermont hunter Conrad Masse, 57, of Craftsbury, charged with the shooting of his friend Wayne Goff, 58, of Wolcott, while they where bear hunting together near Urie Rd. in Albany Vt. on October 22, 2013.
Using a GPS to track two bear hounds that they had released to trail a bear. Masse drove his truck with Goff as a passenger to the Urie Rd. in an attempt to get in front of the bear which was being pursued by the dogs.
Suddenly a bear crossed the road which caused Masse to fire at least three shots. One of the rounds struck the bear, one struck a tree, and one struck Goff.
The bullet had entered Goff in the midsection and struck him in the pelvic area. He then was transported to North Country Hospital and then transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment.
Goff has since been released from the hospital and is in stable condition and in conclusion of the investigation Masse was issued a citation to appear in the Orleans Superior Court and the State is charging him of Aggravated Assault.

1. What you like and dislike about the blog?
- I like how the blog is in the line of entertainment, fantasy and film media. This is a blog that i would come back on and look at more. It tells a lot about movies (super hero, fantasy) and it talks about actors who play the heroes. Im my mind it's a fantasy movie data base and it's for both kids and adults.
2. How often it is updated (avoid "dead" blogs) ?
- It seems that since this blog focuses on the superhero/fantasy movies and daily news in the comic theme world, the page updates on a daily basis, doesn't seem to be a dead day and since there are a lot of people who like the comic world, they always expect something new.
3. Whether the Comments indicate anyone is reading it ?
- Even though the blog gets updated a lot, after looking though all the posts, it doesn't seem that it shows who has read the recent comments. Only thing I found was the date it was posted and the person who posted it.
4. What media elements beyond text does it use ?
- Aside from the Text this blog use some animation in it's title page, a few widgets. It has a lot of slideshows of photos with different art work and sketches. It has a lot of news segments to of recent and past hero events in the movies. There is even a CBM chat where you can join in the conversation on the title of the blog. The last thing about it is the nice blends of colors in the background.
What better way to get your self noticed and out there, than making your own BLOG. Let the world hear your voice and what you have to share. Let me share how I got started in making a BLOG.
I was given the assignment in "Intro to Multimedia Story Telling Class" called PIMP MY BLOG. I have never had a BLOG before, so I new that this was going to be fun. I first set up an account and then got to work. Im a kind of guy who likes to think outside the box, so I got thinking about all the designs and colors I could
add to my new blog. Still being a beginner in this I know that with more time and practice, blogging will become second nature to me. Listening to the tips and suggestions that my professor Dan Williams gave me. I fooled around with all the different styles to create my BLOG home page. I took a picture I had used for a long time...it has my rap name on it "B-Master Baughn" I was considered a free style rapping star in High School and the nick name has stuck with me every since. Knowing that that would help me stand out I decided to use it. There is still more and so much to add to my BLOG but I will take care of that later. I just loved how I was able to customize the colors and the text of the words and re-postion the columns. I just know having a BLOG is going to be a lot of fun and it is also a great part of my major and future career.
-P.S, Im also trying to add more animation widgets to my blog.
